Choosing a Born Bold Kitten

Why choose Born Bold Cats?

Born Bold Cats is an award-winning ANCATS Cattery of Excellence specialising in ethically bred Sphynx and Elf cats. Every kitten is raised with a focus on health, confidence and lifelong wellbeing through DNA-tested breeding, regular HCM heart screening, early socialisation and qualified feline behaviour expertise.

Our goal isn’t to breed the most kittens—it’s to breed healthy, confident companions that thrive with their families. Every Born Bold kitten also comes with lifetime breeder support, giving owners ongoing guidance long after their kitten goes home.

What makes Born Bold different from other breeders?

Our breeding program combines ethical breeding practices with comprehensive health testing, qualified feline behaviour expertise and a lifelong commitment to our kitten families.

Every breeding cat is carefully selected for health, temperament and pedigree. We also provide ongoing education through The Smart Cat Society, helping owners build confident, rewarding relationships with their cats.

Are you an award-winning breeder?

Yes. Born Bold Cats has been recognised nationally for excellence in ethical breeding, feline welfare and education. Our awards include Australian Cattery of the Year in 2025 and 2026 and ANCATS Cattery of Excellence, reflecting our commitment to producing healthy, confident Sphynx and Elf cats.

Are your breeding cats health tested?

Yes. Every breeding cat undergoes comprehensive DNA testing and regular HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) heart screening. These health checks help us make responsible breeding decisions and give every kitten the very best start in life.

Why is ethical breeding important?

Ethical breeding is about far more than producing beautiful kittens. It means carefully selecting breeding cats for health, temperament and genetic diversity while providing excellent care, enrichment and early socialisation. This helps produce confident, healthy kittens that are well prepared for family life.

Health Testing & Genetics

Why do you DNA test your breeding cats?

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a heart disease that can affect cats, including the Sphynx breed. Regular HCM heart screening by qualified veterinary cardiologists is an important part of our health program and helps us make informed breeding decisions.

Are your kittens vaccinated?

Yes. Every Born Bold kitten receives age-appropriate vaccinations, a veterinary health examination before desex and is microchipped before joining their new family.

Do kittens come desexed?

Yes. Unless otherwise agreed, Born Bold kittens are desexed before leaving for their new homes. This supports responsible pet ownership and ensures every kitten is ready to become a much-loved family companion.

Do kittens come with pedigree papers?

Yes. Every Born Bold kitten is registered with ANCATS and is supplied with official pedigree documentation, confirming their ancestry and registration.

Reserving Your Kitten

How do I reserve a Born Bold kitten?

Reserving your kitten is simple. Once you’ve chosen an available kitten, a non-refundable reservation fee secures your place. From there, we’ll keep you updated with photos, videos and progress reports until your kitten is ready to join your family.

How much do Born Bold kittens cost?

Kitten pricing varies depending on the litter, breed and individual kitten. Every Born Bold kitten includes comprehensive veterinary care, microchipping, vaccinations, desexing (unless otherwise agreed), ANCATS pedigree registration, health documentation and lifetime breeder support. Current pricing is available on our Kittens page or by contacting us directly.

Can I choose my own kitten?

Yes. We encourage families to choose the kitten that best suits their lifestyle and preferences. We’re also happy to provide guidance based on each kitten’s personality, confidence and activity level to help you make the right decision. This can be done remotely by video call if required.

Can I join a waiting list?

Absolutely. Many families join our waiting list before kittens are born. This gives you priority access to upcoming litters and allows us to match you with the most suitable kitten when one becomes available.

What happens after I reserve my kitten?

After your reservation is confirmed, you’ll receive updates as your kitten grows. We’ll guide you through preparing your home, arranging transport if required and ensuring you’re ready for collection day. Our support continues long after your kitten arrives home.

Preparing for Your Kitten

What should I buy before bringing my kitten home?

Before your kitten arrives, we recommend having food and water bowls, a quality litter tray and litter, scratching posts, comfortable bedding, safe toys, appropriate shampoo and ear cleaner, a secure carrier and nutritious food ready. Creating a calm, kitten-safe environment will help your new companion settle in quickly and confidently.

Some of these can be purchased from our attached shop.

What do you feed your kittens?

Our kittens are raised on a carefully balanced diet that supports healthy growth, strong immunity and excellent digestive health. When your kitten goes home, we’ll provide feeding advice and recommendations to help make the transition to their new home as smooth as possible.

How do I prepare my home for a Sphynx or Elf kitten?

Remove potential hazards, secure loose electrical cords, provide warm sleeping areas, place litter trays in quiet locations and set up scratching posts and enrichment toys before your kitten arrives. Hairless cats love warmth, climbing and spending time with their family, so creating a safe and enriching environment is essential.

How do I introduce my kitten to other pets?

Introductions should always be gradual and positive. Give your new kitten time to settle into one room before allowing supervised introductions to resident cats or dogs. Patience, positive reinforcement and allowing each pet to adjust at their own pace will help build successful long-term relationships.

What happens on my kitten’s first night home?

Your kitten may be excited, curious or a little unsure as they settle into their new surroundings. Provide a quiet, warm space with familiar bedding, food, water and a litter tray. Spend time reassuring your kitten and allow them to explore at their own pace. Most kittens settle quickly with patience, routine and plenty of affection.

Caring for Your Sphynx or Elf Cat

Do Sphynx and Elf cats need regular baths?

Yes. Because Sphynx and Elf cats have little or no coat to absorb natural skin oils, regular bathing helps keep their skin healthy and comfortable. Bathing frequency varies between individual cats, but most benefit from a gentle bath once a month using Sphynx cat shampoo. We provide guidance on establishing a stress-free grooming routine.

How often should I clean my cat’s ears?

Hairless cats can produce more ear wax than coated breeds, making regular ear cleaning an important part of their care. We recommend checking your cat’s ears weekly and cleaning them when required using a suitable recommended ear cleaner. Gentle, regular maintenance helps prevent irritation and discomfort.

We recommend RenewedPet Products particularly for the ears and these are available from our shop.

Do Sphynx cats get cold?

Yes. Without a full coat, Sphynx and Elf cats rely on warm indoor environments rather than fur for insulation. They enjoy warm bedding, sunny windows, heated blankets designed for pets and spending time close to their family. They should always be protected from prolonged exposure to cold weather.

What should I feed my Sphynx or Elf cat?

A high-quality, balanced diet is essential for maintaining healthy skin, muscle condition and overall wellbeing. Every Born Bold kitten leaves with feeding guidance to help you continue the nutrition they have been raised on, making the transition to their new home as smooth as possible.

How much exercise and enrichment do Sphynx cats need?

Sphynx and Elf cats are intelligent, active and highly social companions. Daily interactive play, climbing opportunities, puzzle feeders, training sessions and positive human interaction help keep them physically fit and mentally stimulated. Enrichment is an important part of raising confident, well-adjusted cats.

Are Sphynx cats hypoallergenic?

No cat is truly hypoallergenic. While Sphynx cats produce little or no coat, they still produce the Fel d 1 protein that can trigger allergies in some people. Many allergy sufferers find they tolerate Sphynx cats better than coated breeds, but this varies from person to person. We always recommend spending time with the breed before making a decision.

Transport & Bringing Your Kitten Home

Do you transport kittens Australia-wide?

Yes. Born Bold Cats can safely arrange transport throughout Australia using trusted pet transport services and approved airlines where appropriate. We carefully plan every journey to ensure your kitten arrives safely, comfortably and with as little stress as possible.

At what age can my kitten go home?

Our kittens remain with their mother and littermates until they are developmentally ready to leave. This important period allows them to continue learning social skills, confidence and appropriate behaviours before joining their new family. this is normally around 13-16 weeks old.

What does my kitten come with?

Every Born Bold kitten leaves with comprehensive veterinary care completed, including vaccinations, microchipping, health checks and ANCATS pedigree registration. You’ll also receive ongoing breeder support, care information and guidance to help your kitten settle into their new home.

Do you provide support after my kitten comes home?

Absolutely. We believe breeder support doesn’t end on collection day. We’re available to answer questions about nutrition, behaviour, health, introductions and general care throughout your cat’s life. Every Born Bold family becomes part of our extended community.

What if I need behaviour advice in the future?

As qualified feline behaviour specialists, we offer ongoing guidance through Born Bold Cats and The Smart Cat Society. Whether you’re introducing a new kitten, solving behaviour challenges or teaching advanced training, we’re here to help you build a confident, rewarding relationship with your cat.
